My laptop recently crashed and there is no way for it to turn on. I contacted this guy off craigslist who says he can repair it (he flies solo by the way). He wants to give me my hard drive and take the computer back with him so he can work on it. Should I trust him? What if he steals it? How can I prevent that from happening and still get my work done?
I was thinking getting his Id number, his address and all the details. What else can I do to to prevent any unforeseen circumstances?

why would he give YOU YOUR HDD if that is what needs work??? He’s probably just going to steal it and put his OS on it for him to use.….
Its broke, so if he stole it he would still have to repair it. That makes it unlikely that he’ll end up stealing it. Who’s going to steal a broke computer anyways?
Yes, I would get all his info. Remember though, that kind of stuff can be easily faked. Ids and addresses can be easily faked with todays technology.
