Whenever I start my computer a notice pops up saying that “The primary IDE Master hard drive self monitoring systerm has reported that a parameter has exceeded its normal operating range. Dell recommends that you back up your data regularly.
A parameter out of range may or may not indicate a potential hard drive problem.
Strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.”
If I strike F1, the computer starts fine but is very slow. How can I resolve this issue?

Hit F2 to run the setup utility.
Normally these kinds of error are reported by the SMART tool when there are chances of having a Hard Disk failure. There may be some problem with ur hard disk. Its better u run other tools to find out problem or check the parameters exceeded the operational range and then contact the dealer ( Log in to offical website of Hard drive manufacturer to get more details on the parameter. ).

F2 for setup utility and examine your hard dives„ and fix if possible„ otherwise u will need another HD
Your drive is failing, Backup your data while you can and you will need to replace the drive. It will get to the point where it will not boot at all and your data may be lost. If your pc is under warranty still call dell and they can issue you an “RMA” number to get a new drive. If you do not have a warranty go to a local computer shop and either buy a replacement or have them install it for you. You will need to have windows reinstalled along with any programs you have on the pc. If you have the operating system cd and the drivers cd (one of the blue ones, says drivers in small print) you may be able to do it yourself.
Check if your wire connections are connected properly, if this is a addon HD or you have purchased it, there are usaully updates and programs that needs to be installed

Computer Slow
Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:
http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml.…..
Can’t live without it and windows…
Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don’t need.
Other things to try:
1 — Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 — Defrag
3 — Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
ALL ELSE FAILS — RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!

To do what you suggest, go into the computer BIOS and disable the hard drive S.M.A.R.T. self checking. Over 99.9% of people have reported serious lags when SMART is enabled. Also, 85% of the errors reported by the SMART utility are useless.
This is not a joke. Seriously, check the BIOS and disable SMART option.
Good luck.
